Review about Skoda Superb:

Skoda Superb is a perfect amalgamation of design, luxury, performance and safety. Skoda Superb is thoughtfully conceptualized and uniquely designed. Its tiptronic automatic transmission makes it possible to navigate effortlessly through city traffic. The climatronic air-conditioning adds more driving pleasure to Skoda Superb. Skoda Superb is equipped with latest generation of active safety features. The Anti-Braking System (ABS) prevents wheels from locking, even in hard or sudden braking.

Skoda Superb, the 5 seater sedan has a spectacular design that brings it at par with global standards. The car range available in India includes both petrol and diesel engines. It is currently the most luxurious model in Skoda's lineup. The modern Skoda Superb is based upon a special Chinese version of the Volkswagen Passat which has been stretched by 10 cm. This all equates to extra passenger space, giving it more rear legroom than even some of the luxurious offerings by BMW and Mercedes. Skoda Superb which we see today was launched back in 2009. However, the first model of Skoda Superb India dates back to 2004 when the saloon was imported. Now, Superb is assembled in India through Completely Knocked Down units at Aurangabad facility.

Skoda Superb is certainly designed to keep its passengers happy. Interior trim is more or less taken from the Passat. There is full climate control and this can be diverted into various storage compartments in order to keep food and drinks cool. There are also air vents in the rear of the vehicle, again to keep the passengers completely satisfied. The stereo consists of a single in-dash CD player and radio. It is a standard Volkswagen unit and used in VWs, Audis, Seats and Skodas. Comfort-wise Skoda Superb is a lovely car to drive. The seats are firm and supportive and the steering can be adjusted for both rake and height. The controls are all logically placed and easy to use.

The Superb is available with both petrol and diesel engines. The base model, Ambition, is available with a 1.8L turbocharged engine mated with six speed manual gearbox that produces a peak power of 160 PS with 250 Nm torque and a 2.0L turbo diesel engine along with six speed DSG automatic gearbox that produces 140 PS power and 320 Nm torque. The Elegance models are offered with a 1.8 L Petrol, 2.0 L turbodiesel and 3.6 litre V6 engine. Transmissions available are a six-speed manual or five-speed tiptronic.

Skoda Superb is known for its powerful engine which performs to thrill with best-in-class power with highest top speed and class leading torque for top acceleration. All the variants have 4 cylinder, turbocharged engines with direct injection systems that improve fuel economy by improving combustion process. Perfect handling, directional stability and enhanced braking ability have always been the hallmark of every Skoda automobile and are mirrored in the new Skoda Superb as well, soaring high on the design, safety, security, comfort, and convenience aspects.

Bi-Xenon AFS (Adaptive Frontlight System) with corner lamps, 12-way electrically adjustable driver and front passenger seats, ESP (electronic stability programme) plus TPM (tyre pressure monitoring), Anti-theft alarm with interior monitor and tilt sensor, electro mechanical power steering and eight airbags including rear side are the main highlights of the Skoda Superb.

The effort that has gone to make Skoda Superb an outstanding car is reflected in the design of the exterior that have alloy wheels, rear deck spoiler, polished twin exhaust tailpipes, chrome surround for radiator grille, chrome smile around lower air dam in front bumper, chrome protective side door strips, chrome side window frames, chrome trim on the boot lid, bumpers, external mirrors, door handles, roof trim strips painted in the colour of the vehicle, turn indicator in external mirrors, auto-tilt on reverse gear selection, front and rear electrically adjustable windows, one-touch operation windows, bounce-back system windows, automatic front wiper system with rain sensor and rear mud flaps. The twin-door design is Skoda’s patent design for Superb saloon which serves the purpose of a liftback and a sedan.

Interior space is an arena where Skoda Superb owners can doubtlessly flaunt their car. The interiors of Skoda Superb stand apart with Chrome trim on controls for infotainment system and air conditioning, chrome trim on steering wheel and storage compartment lids on dashboard, chrome trim on front console and rear console, chrome interior door handles and gear selector knob, chrome ring on instrument cluster dials, silver alloy decor with weave design on front dashboard, centre console and door panels, dual tone front dashboard, centre console and door panels, ivory colour upholstery, active front head restraints, Skoda Swing audio player with eight speakers, odour filter and pollen filter, textile floor mats, 12V power socket in centre console, Front glovebox with cooling and illumination, bottle holders in the front doors, cup holders. The twin door at the rear is meant for placing small and hefty items in the boot as one can open the rear window along with the rear boot. Its capacity is variable from 565 l to a whopping 1670 l.

With the new arrivals in the luxury sedan segment like the New Hyundai Sonata and Toyota Camry, Skoda has got a new base variant for its Superb line-up in the form of Skoda Superb Ambition. Skoda had used the same formula with the Laura some time back when it got in the new Classic variant as the base variant of the Laura line up. Skoda has cut down on a few features to bring down the pricing for the Superb Ambition.

Active and passive safety features like TPM or Tyre Pressure Monitor, eight airbags, ABS, EBD, ASR (Anti-Slip regulation), rain sensors, Bi-Xenon headlights with Adaptive Frontlight System, fog lights with cornering functions, EDL (Electronic Differential Lock), HBA(Hydraulic Brake Assist), Hill Hold Control, TCS (Traction Control system) and ESP (Electronic Stability Program). In all, Skoda Superb is a complete win-win car for Skoda India that not juts outpaces Honda Accord and Volkswagen Passat but also poses a great threat to Mercedes Benz S Class.
