27 May, 2012: Maruti Swift emerged as the top selling car in Indian automobile market in April, 2012. The sales of this premier hatchback outpaced highest selling model Maruti Alto in April, thanks to the diesel variants of Swift. 19,484 units of Maruti Swift were sold in April as compared to 17,842 units of Alto. Although Maruti Swift diesel price ranges from Rs 5.53 lakh to Rs 6.76 lakh (ex showroom Delhi) which is much ahead of entry level Maruti car-Alto, people preferred former over petrol powered Alto. The extraordinary gap between petrol and diesel price (Rs 30/Litre currently) has resulted in this outpacing activity where Swift has dethroned 7 years champion Alto. The grip of latter is expected to lose with time with people’s tilt towards diesel wagons.

The heavy-sized Maruti Suzuki Swift VXi car is otherwise a power smooth one with the power engine consuming 87 bhp of 1.3L engine. Swift enables an easy acceleration. Owing to Swifts ultra flat curve, it does not require too much of gear shifting, a boon, especially when it comes to city roads. An exemplary thing about Maruti Swift is the 14 inch tyre, instead of the usual 13 inch ones for small family cars; meaning a great escape from the pot holes, a clear evidence of Indian roads. The rear lacks independent suspension but does not have an adverse impact whatsoever. In fact, the car has some striking features to own. 

With highly economical fuel consumption, you can expect extra mileage from lesser liters of fuel. On highway ride, you are assured of 18.2 per liter while on city roads; it most likely comes down to 13.8 per liter. Overall, on an average it goes to 14.7 per liter. This scientific contraption has a common rail multi injection fuel system at 1400 bar. Truly a power engine, it is the best-suited family car. 


Design

The AC in a Maruti Suzuki Swift VXi maintains the goodwill gained on this aspect, by other manufactured cars of the same brand. With the VXi version, you own a tachometer, door open alarm, light on alarm tone, key inside and driver seatbelt warning. In contrast to the other automobiles, VXi is designed to have a rear electric window while others have front power windows only. Most importantly, the VXi version, no matter its petite, smart looks has the capacity to accommodate a total of 5 passengers providing comfy leg space; apart from the rear parcel tray consuming the boot space which otherwise could have been a little larger for a more relaxing position. 

Cons
The digital clock missing is a factor that works against the car purchase. Such other minute detailing such as no power mirrors requiring the adjusting of mirrors manually is again adding to the drawback of Maruti Suzuki Swift VXi. 

Conclusion
Yet comfortable to its core, Maruti Suzuki Swift VXi is a great bet not only for the brand-conscious but also for the comfort freaks. With no intention to compromise on the quality, instead of the usual 4 inch speaker, Maruti has installed a 6 inch speaker in their new Swift.
